Your Guide to Open Space Glazing
Whether you’re looking to enhance your home or commercial property with stunning glass features, we’re here to answer your questions.
How long does it take to install a glazed terrace?
The installation timeline depends on the scope of the project. Typically, a Lumon technician can install patio glazing within 1–3 business days. For more complex terraces that include foundations, aluminum framing, glass roofs, and doors, the estimated duration will be determined by your Project Manager during the initial consultation and final measurements.
Is an OpenSpace Glazing sunroom a four-season sunroom?
No, an OpenSpace Glazing sunroom is considered a three-season outdoor living space. Unlike four-season sunrooms that use insulated walls and standard windows, Lumon’s glass walls are fully retractable — offering flexibility and a closer connection to the outdoors.
Can I use sunrooms in the winter?
Yes — but it depends on your location. In milder regions like Greater Vancouver, users often enjoy their Lumon sunrooms year-round. In colder areas like Toronto or Hamilton, it’s usable on sunny winter days, especially with good sun orientation.
Can the aluminum parts of the terrace come in different colors?
Yes. The aluminum profiles come powder-coated in four standard colors:
- White (RAL 9016)
- Light Gray (RAL 9006)
- Dark Gray (RAL 7024)
- Jet Black (RAL 9005)
You can also custom-order from the RAL color chart, offering 210+ color options.
Is the glass single or double glazed?
OpenSpace Glazing uses single-glazed tempered glass panels. While not insulated, these panels capture passive solar heat, making the space warmer than an open balcony.
Does installing balcony glazing require a permit?
It depends on your local municipality. Always check with local building authorities regarding zoning and permit requirements. We recommend verifying all regulations before starting the project.
What accessories can I add to the glazed balcony?
Popular accessories include Visor blinds. Additional accessories may vary by region. So, we always check different options for the specific projects.
Is an OpenSpace Glazing glazed balcony completely sealed?
No. There’s about a 1.5mm–3mm gap between panels for ventilation. This helps prevent moisture buildup and maintains structural integrity, while still protecting your balcony from rain and dust.
How much does a glazed balcony cost?
The cost varies based on the size, design, and installation method of your balcony. A detailed quote can be provided after a site assessment.
